When Holly Got Kicked Out of the Pickleball Court
I like pickleball.
The reason I like pickleball is that it is easy and I am not super coordinated. I also appreciate that even though I am not great at it, I can still play with others and not be embarrassed which is a plus.
Pickleball is also something that my kids will play with mom and dad and not complain and occasionally we might even win.
Pretty much pickleball is low stress...until last weekend.
My husband and I were invited to go with another couple to their gym to play in the gym's one pickleball court. We came a few minutes early to sign waivers and pay our guest fee.
The manager stopped our friends and said that guests were not allowed on the one pickleball court, it was only for premium members but since they didn't know that and since the four of us would be playing together, he would allow it this time. He encouraged my husband and I to sign up as a premium member so we could come back. And lastly he mentioned that there was another couple that had a backup reserve on the court in case we didn't show up.
The backup reserve couple were playing on the courts with kids when we approached the courts.
And the backup reserve couple was not at all happy to leave the courts.
We started playing. It had been awhile since we last played (our regular courts are outside and it has been a little warm over the last few Texas summer months) so we were laughing and trying to figure out the rules again.
33 minutes into our pickleball game the backup reserve couple approached with another manager.
They were not happy. There was pickleball drama.
Pickleball drama?
Ummmm....we don't think pickleball should be dramatic. So, my husband and I excused ourselves quickly and exited the gym. The gym that we will never ever ever join because they have pickleball drama.
Oh, and so what happened after we left? Did the backup reserve couple and our friends join together for a game of pickleball? Nope. 27 additional minutes of drama until the next game reservation...
